Solid Waste Manager Position Available
The Town of Huachuca City, Arizona has a position available for a full time Solid Waste Manager, which provides for efficient use of a sanitary landfill.
Position Overview
The Solid Waste Manager oversees a department with six employees and an enterprise fund budget of $1.5 million supported by numerous user charges. The Solid Waste Manager is responsible for environmentally safe disposal of domestic goods, commercial goods, some scrap metals and prevention of hazardous materials. Position includes supervision of employees, budgeting, purchase orders, training, environmental standards, some equipment operation (as needed) and successful profitable management of an enterprise fund.
Qualifications, Compensation and Benefits
Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in environmental management or related field; supplemented by five years’ experience that includes supervising staff and managing solid waste collection and disposal programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Engineering education and experience is desirable.
Candidates must possess a Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certification. Candidates must also possess proven experience with ADEQ (Arizona Department of Environmental Quality) landfill operation procedures. Selected candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License. Expected hiring range for this salaried position is $40,000-$60,000 annually depending on qualifications. The Town of Huachuca City offers a competitive insurance and retirement package.
Additional Qualifications
Additional desirable qualifications would include landfill experience in a current arid climate. Also additional experience with area filling techniques using small confined space tipping pads helpful. Understanding landfill equipment and teamwork relationship between heavy equipment operators during tipping operation to construct the landfill according to the ADEQ permitted design required.
